During the 16th century in Brazil, the Portuguese colonialists tried to capture and enslave the local population, but this proved too difficult as they often managed to escape. Therefore, almost half of the slaves from the African colonies were shipped across the Atlantic to Brazil, as well as from other Portuguese colonies.
While martial arts and traditions were forbidden, culture and tradition were strong among the slaves. In order to instill hope and be able to defend themselves, the movements were masked with dance.
The songs that are sung in Capoeira tell many different stories about this very thing.
Our group has its roots in Grupo Cordão de Ouro, which has laid the foundation for our style and culture in Capoeira. In 2021, our mestre Pium left Cordão de Ouro with us and started the group Pés de Pincel. Our group in Stockholm is led by Instructor Salgadinho (George Bonnet) and we go under our master and friend Mestre Pium (Rodrigo Quissak Machado) who is based in Helsinki, Finland.
